ArchivalResource

The Joseph E. Refsnes collection, 1919-1996 [manucript].

This collection contains business files, business correspondence, personal correspondence, personal financial files and ephemera. The bulk of the files are transcripts, correspondence and financial analysis from bond issues throughout the state of Arizona. In many cases the files include debt retirement schedules, hand-written calculations on columnar notepad paper, copies of specimen bonds, teletype conversations (from the 1930s through 1960s), telegrams, correspondence with government officials and brokerages from other parts of the country, and newspaper clippings of bond election or bond bidding announcements. In some cases there are copies of legislation, copies of official ballots, the number and names of electors and voting tally sheets. The collection contains the estate and trust files of several of Refnes' close friends, clients or colleagues. The collection also includes photographs of prominent businessmen and three cassette tapes of oral histories conducted by Dean Smith with Refsnes in 1988. N.B. Within the Government bonds series, particularly the Arizona State Fair Coliseum and Salt River Project, dates on folders overlap. Despite this, the folders do not contain duplicates. These folders were labeled as found.
